Outdoor Activities In The Palm Beaches

The Palm Beaches of Florida is a beautiful and unique destination with clean beaches, warm waters, and fewer crowds. It offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages and interests, including world-class golf courses, luxurious spas, a vibrant art scene, and breathtaking natural beauty. Although it’s known as the “gentler side” of Florida, there are plenty of exciting outdoor activities in The Palm Beaches of Florida. We’re sharing the best activities to add to you bucket list if you’re planning a visit.

Explore Peanut Island In West Palm Beach

Exploring Peanut Island is easily one of the top outdoor activities in The Palm Beaches. Catching a water taxi at Riviera Beach Marina Village is the easiest way to get there. If you prefer something a little more adventurous, you can paddle your way to the island by launching your kayak or paddle board at Phil Foster Park. This is a great launch spot because you can more easily cut across the water to Peanut Island. Another fun option is to take a tiki boat tour to Peanut Island

Once you’re there, you can fish off the pier or snorkel in the designated area (just remember to bring your own gear). Keep in mind that there are restrooms and picnic tables available, but no restaurants or shops, so pack accordingly. If you’re feeling up for it, there are also campgrounds where you can set up a tent. Interesting side note: there are permanently anchored boats around the island that serve as local hangouts, vacation rentals, excursions, houseboat residences, and even some abandoned vessels.

Tips:

The Blue Heron Bridge Snorkel Trail

The Blue Heron Bridge at Phil Foster Park is a world-renowned dive and snorkel site with clear waters and exotic sea creatures, including seahorses, pipefish, and octopus. It has been recognized as the Best Shore Diving in The Americas, Florida’s Exotic Critter Capital, and the Muck Diving Capital of the World. The depth ranges from 4 to 20 feet, and there is a snorkeling trail made of limestone and prefabricated reef modules that covers 2 acres ranging from depths of 6 to 10 feet.

Tips:

Hike To Blowing Rocks Preserve

Hiking a short beach trail to see the Blowing Rocks Preserve in Jupiter is another great outdoor activity in The Palm Beaches of Florida. The Beach trail is a 0.1-mile pathway leading visitors through a shaded maritime hammock habitat to the beach where the Blowing Rocks are located.

There are several other short trails to explore at The Nature Conservancy including The Dune Trail. This 0.4-mile one-way trail starts at Blowing Rocks and offers sweeping views of the beach. The Mangrove Boardwalk is a 0.1-mile trail that takes you through a mangrove forest to an elevated boardwalk with an overlook of the Indian Lagoon River. The Lagoon Trail is a 0.4-mile loop trail that takes you through saltwater marsh and coastal strand habitat to Indian River Lagoon. Finally, the Pollinator Garden Scenic Walk is a 0.01-mile loop through a native pollinator habitat.

Tips:

  • If you want to witness the famous “blowing rocks,” visit on a day with rough seas at high tide.
  • Don’t forget to check the current tide schedule as the high tide time changes daily.
  • The Preserve is closed on holidays.
  • Free on-site parking available.
  • Optional $2 donation helps maintain the coastal preserve.
